Children love to explore the great outdoors and our Forest School Kindergarten has been shaped to provide a curriculum which empowers the appreciation of the 0.25 hectares and stunning area in which our Forest School is situated. Through Giant Leap Forest School, children are able to develop an enduring love and understanding of the natural environment, whilst at the same time developing the core purposes of the Giant Leap Forest School ethos, the development of self-esteem, confidence and social skills. Through well planned activities our children participate in activities throughout the year which enable them to shine in all areas of their personal and social development. Alongside the fabulous forest grounds we also have a newly established outdoor classroom and pre-school unit.
Giant Leap Forest School is led by a trained and qualified Forest School Team who understand the Forest Schools ethos. Giant Leap Forest School practitioners have undertaken a Level 3 Forest School Qualification; this is a combination of practice and theory. In addition, practitioners have acquired basic bush craft skills and undertaken a first aid qualification suitable for working in remote outdoor settings.
Our Forest School is inspirational and challenging; it raises expectations and develops a secure understanding of individual learning styles and schemas. The ‘wild’; yet controlled, safe environment of Giant Leap Forest School, ensures that children taking part naturally learn to risk assess and are encouraged to make sensible and educated decisions about how to deal with unfamiliar and unpredictable situations; such as exploring, climbing trees, using tools to build shelters and dens. Much of the learning for our children originates as a result of the opportunities they have for testing their own abilities in a real life setting. Besides all of this we offer many stimulating resources and activities; such as, fairy homes, rope swings, hammocks, mud slides, mud kitchens, dragons dens and stream walks.
Our parents are encouraged to be involved with their children’s learning in the Forest School through joining in with Gruffalo Hunts, Pirate Treasure Hunts and lots, lots more.
Additionally at Giant Leap we deliver a fun and exciting gardening program. We are currently growing forty various fruit trees and the children have participated in growing their own vegetables in our nursery garden whilst at the same time learning about all sorts of fun such as, life cycles, recipes and how fruit and vegetables help their bodies grow big and strong.
